The more I think about this book, the sadder I get. I think that it had a lot of potential to show how much strength can be gained by walking with Christ, how some things are morally wrong and that there are consequences to actions.
Everyone in this book was a cheater (Max sleeps with an ex a week before his wedding, but that's no biggie because they weren't married yet.... (Uh, NO! That's not how that works.) Jade's mother-in-law cheated on her husband 9 months before Max was born, and Jade's fa

My review: I received Softly and Tenderly from Book Sneeze in exchange for a free review. This has in no way altered view of the novel and all opinions are my own, true and true. SPOILERS!
Jade longs to begin a family with her husband, Max. But after 3 miscarriages, she is beginning to doubt. Maybe God doesn't want her to have a family. Maybe God is still punishing her. She struggles to run her two shops, help her mother-in-law, and care for her mother who is dying from cancer. When she finds ou

Softly and tenderly Jesus is calling, calling for you and for me... So the song goes. One of my favorites. What an awesome read!
I haven't read the first book, but I think from my experience that the books can stand alone as well. We meet Jade, who is married to Max. They are having troubles with having children. But when Max's ex-wife dies and Jade finds out that they slept together a week before Jade and Max's wedding and have a son, will Jade be able to forgive Max and keep Asa as her own even

This series has me completely engrossed in the lives of these characters. Its not a 'fun' read; sometimes its down right difficult to read because of all the hurt and sadness, but somehow, you finish reading with a sense of hope, a desire to strive to have a closer relationship with God, a renewed spirit to be thankful, forgiving, loving and patient with your own trials in life. If you do consider reading this, i would HIGHLY recommend reading all the novels in order.

In this second installment of the Evans/Hauck collaboration, Jade’s troubles increase. Now she must deal with a dying mother, hurting mother-in-law, unfaithful husband, and temptation in the form of an old love from her past. This book was a page-turner. However, I would’ve liked to see a more joyful outcome, but I’m not ready to give up on Jade yet! I know I’ll be checking out whatever comes next in her world. I just can’t help but want healing and happiness for her!

And
I'm not entirely sure how to rate this book. While the characters were very believable, there was so much drama that this book almost felt like a soap opera. Despite that, I was constantly wondering how I would react if I were in Jade or June's situation and I felt like I was making decisions right along with the characters. 7/10
Alright, I’m going to try to be fair and admit that I accidentally jumped into the middle of this trilogy without reading the first book. So, the cumulative drama of both books may have just pushed it too far for me, but I only made it about halfway through before giving up on this story.
I’m a sucker for clean/ Christian themed romances. I’m usually pretty lenient with the genre. My main problem with this story line is that it falls into the worldly trap of normalizing extramarital affairs. Whil

Finding Myself
Jade's life had not been easy and she guarded her heart very closely. Max had done all the right things and she trusted him so this marriage may just be the answer to her prayers. Things seemed to be going her way for a change, two antique stores, new marriage, husband that loves her, a relationship with her Mother, and then it happens. Read this book and see how Jade turns her life over to Jesus and his He walks her through the toughest time of her life.

I liked the first in the series, but absolutely loved this sequel. I feel the mother daughter dynamic in this one was so well written and Jade’s struggling marriage was very realistic. Can’t wait to start the final book.
Meh. Didn’t hate it but I just felt like so many problems were introduced in this one that took away some of the sweetness of the first book. I do love that the mother/daughter relationship was improved. The ending felt incredibly rushed.

In each book here faith in god grows. Mainly I chose this because Sara Evans wrote it.
Second book in this Christian trilogy, (see an overall review of the trilogy at book one).
Even better than the first book. I’m excited to start reading book three!

Very good. Not as good as the first, but still really good.
Meh. I don't know how it's possible but they somehow managed to make me dislike just about every character I had previously liked in the first book. The only exceptions would be June and Beryl and one died, so that about sums it up.

This is one of those books that seems to have found me more than I've found it. You know the ones I mean; those books that call to you from the shelf in the library, for no obvious reason, maybe even the sort of books you hardly ever read but for some reason, you feel this one has something special for you and you've just got to answer its calling. That's how it happened for me. I hardly ever, EVER read contemporary fiction, and a book about 'a woman who married into a Southern soap opera'? Um.

I’ve added Softly and Tenderly to my list of books that prove readers who dismiss inspirational as “preaching books” are selling the subgenre short and cheating themselves out of some great reading.

I read 'The Sweet By and By' last year, and I don't remember being especially impressed with it. It felt too heavy to me. So I wasn't sure what to expect when I got my hands on the sequel (in what is going to be a trilogy).
The details of the first one were a little foggy in my mind, but I remembered the major plot and details came back to me as I read the sequel. I would think that anyone could pick up this book and be just fine without having read SBAB first.
I enjoyed 'Softly and Tenderly' so

This is probably one of the most emotionally charged books that I've read in a very long time. If you were to lump it into a genre, it is Christian Chicklit. It is very heavy on 'Faith' but never comes across as preachy, which I liked.
This is the second book in the Songbird series. (Oh do I wish I had read the first one..but I'll go back and get that one later). It reads like a soap opera. Jade has her issues, she thinks she's barren, her mother is terminally ill. Her husband Max is addicted to

I enjoyed Softly & Tenderly. It’s the second book in a series. I haven’t read the first book, The Sweet By and By.

Her in-laws are dragging her into their messy marriage. Her husband Max has several secrets that threaten to undo his and Jade’s marriage as well.

Her mom is fighting leukemia and refuse to go through another chemotherapy. I think I can understand her mom well since one of my cousin died of luekemia, and she went through a lot of chemotherapy. Redemption Through Forgiveness
It takes an brave writer who has felt emotions strong enough to break through to the hidden places we all have in our hearts. Does every transgression deserve forgiveness? This book touched my heart. I needed to think about it for awhile before I could write a review.

Softly & Tenderly is the second book in Sara Evans’ “Songbird Series”. Throughout this novel there are references to events that the reader would be familiar with if they had read the first book. The fact I hadn’t read the first book didn’t affect my enjoyment of the overall story. I could grasp what I needed from the brief references and didn’t feel lost.

It definitely stands alone very well and I was immediately hooked by the characters. In fact, I enjoyed it so much that I plan to read the first book, just to see how the series starts out. According to Sara, this second book “explodes” with drama and I have to agree. This story covers a

Wow! Just WOW! I didn’t realize that this was the second book in the series when it was offered by BookSneeze.com this month…I actually thought it was the first, which I have wanted to read for quite some time. So when I started reading this, and realized it was the second book, I was slightly disappointed only because I was entering the story in the middle. However, I love this book, and can’t wait until Love Lifted Me is released this coming January (per Amazon.com’s pre-order information).

Softly and Tenderly, by Sara Evans with Rachel Hauck, is anything but soft and tender as the story first unfolds. Secrets and betrayal open with painful harshness. You find your heart bleeding all over the pages with the characters. There’s no sugar-coating on the raw emotions felt and displayed. Honest, heartfelt, and painful conversations are held. Heart-wrenching in every way. Choices made could have easily been my own.
